Whitehurst and Son Derby
Whitehurst and Son
This a very good and rare 8 day hook and spike wall clock by Whitehurst and son of Derby.
From the famous clockmaking family started by John Whitehurst
Unlike the brass dial version this is a painted arch dial with scene in the arch.
He did not make a lot of these and what is nice is that it is an eight day and strikes on a bell.
The dial measures 8 inches wide 12 inches high
The movement is numbered 4145 on the front and back plate which dates it to approximately 1820.
All complete with weights and pendulum
See Maxwell Cravens books Derbyshire Clockmakers or John Whitehurst
Very fine workmanship which you would expect from Whitehurst
This clock has been sympathetically recently restored to its former glory and is in good working order.
